Since leaving De La Salle did a variety of jobs clerical and manual.  Eventually went self employed as cafe owner and greengrocer.  Then trained for the ministry, spent 3 years in a South London parish then moved to Hednesford, Staffs where I am currently minister to St Saviour's church Hednesford.  I married Marian in 1985 and we have three children, Joe 13, Lydia 11 and Charles 9.  Since leaving school I don't think I've ever met anyone from my year and would be very interested to hear from anyone interested in having a chat.

I left De La salle in 1962 and wasted three years at Hopwood Hall Teacher Training College.  I taught for 34 years in the Manchester area and then found the escape tunnel and took early retirement.  I now work two days a week at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital school to help finance the above interests.  I am happily married to Pat and have two grown up sons Richard and Christopher who despite all my efforts are keen Manchester United fans.  I stumbled on this website by accident and it brought back many happy memories and familiar names.

Eventually went to Manchester Univ in 1967.  The ultimate perpetual student, gaining a PhD in Chemistry (in an area so obscure that even Pat Hopkins didn't know what it was all about!) and a Business Degree at MBS.  Spent five years with the General Trading division (UAC) of Unilever in a range of operating roles, including a spell buying ladies underwear for export to Africa and three years in the Middle East, part of the time running a liquor business. Then spent four years in UAC's corporate planning department, providing a range of operational and strategic services to various business units worldwide, and 10 years with Unilever's Corporate Development & Economics Group, developing market and competitive strategies and identifying new business opportunities, in addition to contributing to Unilever's global strategy formulation.  On parting company with Unilever, co-founded TLE Strategy Co Ltd., which has now been going for 9 years.  Married 25+ years, with three children, all now at or finished university.  Live in Chislehurst, Kent.

On leaving DLS I went to Birmingham University for a degree in Modern Languages, and from there to Sheffield for a PGCE.   Then it was 30 years teaching in various comprehensive schools until I saw the light and got out.  I'm now a happily retired grandfather dividing his time between acting as a JP on the Rotherham Bench, supporting Barnsley FC and looking after my grandson, Joe.   I'm also still trying to rid myself of the scars, mental and physical, picked up in S4, but that is another story.

After release from camp, I did a three year stretch at St. Mary's College, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, where I took Art & Drama.  Whilst at college, I joined Securicor, with whom I stayed for four and a half years.  After college, continued with Securicor, and also did a year, in Attercliffe with Sheffield Ed. Dept., got offered a job at the Catholic school my brother was teaching in, in Powell River, B.C., Canada, so I took it.  Stayed there for three years until they discovered I was "shacked up" with my girl-friend, so we agreed to part company. Just as well, as I did not like the job and never felt comfortable in a school setting.  Got married the day after I quit teaching, that surprised those Pious Joes.  Spent a year helping to rebuild my fishing boat.  Returned to Europe with wife and new son, to visit relatives in England, and friends in Greece.  Returned to Canada to find boat finished, and bills to be paid.  Went to Prince George to find work in a sawmill.  Returned to Powell River a year later, to start fishing.  Stayed at that for a couple of years.  Never made any money, don't eat fish, so, after a brief interlude with a well driller, I found work in the local Pulp and Paper Mill, where I would be, today, if it were not for my wife's family owning a pub in South-east Devonshire.  We had the opportunity to BUY in 1987.  We were there for five years, and had a good trade, but we also had a 20.5% mortgage, so like many others, in 1992, we lost out to the bank.  What-else to do, when England had little to offer, but come back " home ".  It is very handy to have more than one passport.  Such decisions are easy to take.  On returning to Powell River, I had to find some work, age and economy not being exactly favourable, so I upgraded my driving licence.  Now to get a job.  I bought an ex-Derby daimler CVG6 double decker bus, hoping to make my fortune the way such things do in Victoria.  Not the case here.  It sort of covers it immediate expenses, but there is nothing in it for me, apart from contacts.  As a consequence I also work for the local School District, as a school bus driver.  That is about as close to school as I feel comfortable.  I do, however, greet the kids, each day, and say "good'bye" as they leave, in as cheery a way as I can, as I am aware that for some kids, I may be the only friendly face they ever see.   Apart from that I am involved with local groups ; theatre, Sea fiar & c. I also monitor this page to check for " false memory syndrome" A fact of which you all seem to be aware, and of which some are critical, but not all.  I got married in 1975 to Kim, who works with children and teens with problems, some, not all, come to her through the courts.  She knows all about Catholic education, from her days in catholic boarding schools, despite fact she was C of E.  We have two boys Ruaidri and Eoin.  They were baptised Anglican, but raised on morals without the interference of any religion, which is probably why they have strict ideas of right wrong, and hypocrisy.  The eldest lives in Vancouver and works in the film industry.  The youngest went off to the Yukon, with a crazy Czech friend of ours, to prospect for gold.  He'll probably come back broke, but the experience will be something-else.  Does anyone know the where-abouts of Pierre Jackaman, with whom I made my first two trips to Greece, and Michael John Meehan, with whoom I spent three years at St.Mary's?  Mail bombs may be sent to : S.J.Bennett, 5183, Tanner Avenue, Powell River, B.C., V8A 5B4.  Death threats by 'phone :604-483-4192 or FAX 604-483-4122

After leaving De La Salle, I spent 3 years studying Mech Eng. at UMIST, where I learnt to play guitar.  Featured in various bands before being ‘spotted’ and then spent the next 8 years touring with Santana.   While in the USA I was recruited by the CIA and spent several years working undercover (my time at UMIST pretending to be an engineer really helped here).   Saw action in South America, parts of Africa and a few countries I can’t mention.  Eventually given a new identity as a happily married man with two children and re-located to Sydney, Australia (why is it always Australia?).   Been here for 13 years masquerading as a writer and producer for a "Video, Events and Digital Media" company.   Don't ask what that's got to do with Mech Eng.   Still keep in touch with Gerry O’Leary, John Sheehan and Mike Lunn in Hong Kong.

I joined the college aged 11 in 1966, and left at the end of the third year by kind invitation of the management (Wilf).  I was the fourth member of my family to wear the Green 'n' Gold.   My best memories are singing at the City Hall with Gertie Stockhill, and playing football on Saturday mornings at Beauchief.   I can still smell those underground changing rooms in Beauchief Hall.   Worst memories?  Everything else really.   In 1976, after a few years working in local engineering, I joined the army, where I worked as a comms engineer for 18 years, including a stint in the Gulf war, for which I was decorated.  I left and joined Vodafone as a radio engineer, and studied programming in my spare time.   I am now a design engineer, contracting to the highest bidder, and recently helped design Orange's new Directory Enquiries service.   I live in Sheffield with my wife and two daughters, but tend to work away most of the time.   I would love to hear from: John Lynch, Mick Walsh, Mick Lyons, Wilf Croft and anyone else from '3W'.   Nobody from '3N' please '3S'?, maybe!)

Mixed memories of Scott Road.  Being short and skinny was not the best thing to be at such a Rugby and pain oriented school.  Anyway, I escaped in 1980 and had 4 great years doing a business studies degree at L'pool poly.  Then 2 years bumming around working for dodgy nightclubs in Spain (OK it was Benidorm...)  Ended up squatting in North London for a few years and accidently found myself in computing.  6 years in London working for small software house and got married and had first kid, Ben.  London's no place to bring up a kid so headed back up North.  Worked for the next 9 years for CODA an accounting software firm during which time Stephanie came on the scene.  On my first day I was introduced to 2 old boys, Declan Doyle and Pete Nixon.  Declan went off to London and Pete went to Germany with his German wife.  Now live in Knaresborough and love it.  Left CODA last year and now work as IT contract manager - back in Sheffield for company called Lynx - the place draws you back like a black hole.  Still go to the Blades with my old man, still don't know why !

I've lived in London since I finished a library course in Aberystwyth in 1970 or thereabouts.  Didn't stay in libraries for long though and moved into films - firstly with the BBC in the film library and then at the COI in the government films department.  For the last fourteen years I've been a television producer in advertising agencies where I make TV commercials - some of them you might even have seen.  I've been married for thirteen years now to Sue and we have two children - Grace (9) and Ned (7) and live in Clapham.  I'm not now in touch with anyone from DLSC although I used to see Paul Lawless occasionally until he moved back to Sheffield from London.

After De La Salle I went to Liverpool University for 3 years to do an Electronic Engineering degree.   Then worked for a year in London in residential social work (OAP homes etc.).   Since then have worked in Engineering (mainly TV related) as a development engineer in Chelmsford, London, Germany (for one year).   London again, and Eastleigh, Hampshire.   Have also been unemployed for a few months at a time and have even been forced to go back to studying as a so-called 'Mature Student' (I like to think I was more mature than the other students seeing I was nearly twice the age of most of them).   Was made redundant about a year ago and was just getting ready for a visit to the industrial nerve centre that is Winchester job centre when a job offer came in from a company in Watford, so I live up in London during the week and come back home at weekends where wife and 2 kids are glad to see me (I like to think anyway).   Parents no longer alive and only one of my brothers still lives in South Yorkshire, so we only go back about once a year now.   Would be interested to hear from anyone who left DLS in 1976.
