Left the college in 1961 and took up employment with ESC (later BSC) as an analytical chemist.  Joined the Old Boys football team in 1961 (I had actually been playing for them on and off since 1959 but John Wall didn't know!).  Joined Sheffield United in 1962 and played with them for three years until 1965 when I decided that a career in football was not for me and went back to the Old Boys.  Moved into IT in 1966 and have been involved with it ever since.  Currently employed by IBM as a Global Project Manager (Multi National Projects).  Got married in 1968 and have two children, Kay who is currently working as an administrator/secretary at Sheffield Hallam University, and Chris who is a Pharmacist working and living in Manchester.  Currently still live in Sheffield (Chapeltown) although I have spent some time living in Leicester and in North Yorkshire (Sherburn-in Elmet).  Still have contact with a number of Old Boys via the Old Boys football team and the Beauchief Club.

Married '82, divorced 2000.  Two kids, Danielle & Liam.  Now with partner Tina and daughter Alina.  Still in steel - amazing how many old boys are - at Kiveton Park.  Lifelong Blade, playing off about 17 at Golf, - on a good day - follow Superbikes, Toseland is a Kiveton lad.  Write a piece for local rag every week but now getting to the stage where the old pipe and slippers are looking increasingly tempting.

Went into steel industry after leaving DLS as metallurgist (so much for the careers advisory service!!)  Spent 17 years at BSC from developing steel plant to marketing.  Joined marketing in 1979 (late career change) and wished careers advisory service had told me about this before.  Had to organise customer events at Test Matches and Open Golf as well as many wonderful 'skives' which marketing people get paid for.  Joined John Carr and became Marketing Director then to Jewson.  Now work as Marketing Consultant.  Live in the Manse at Dronfield.  Married to Julia - an Interior Designer (plug plug!!).  3 children (all girls) and a grandfather (another girl).  Brother of Gerry (the actor - see Coronation St website!)  James and sons of Jimmy Fletcher.

Any other information:I attended from around 1963 till 1967.  I came from Swinton and often took the Barnsley bus that ran around the area picking up students.  I later used public transport via Rotherham after discovering more interesting people/diversions etc than being squashed together with other students.  I recall the odd brothers, strange staff, games day at Beauchief, Saturday morning rugby, those gloomy basement changing rooms, Assembly!, the fight to get your face up to the bars in the tuck shop window!  I have fond memories of being one of the three little maids in the Mikado!  The ham radio room above the chemistry and Physics labs was a great place to escape since it had some trapdoor steps that could be pulled up from above.  I developed a life time interest in smoking and electronics in the peace and quiet of that attic room.  I recall lots of friends but only really now remember a couple of names ( Jamie kilner, Leon Gaziorwski, Fizzer) however I am sure I could recall more if prompted.  I left early since my father and brother died and my mother remarried to someone who had also lost his spouse.  I moved to a to a farm near Holmfirth and became the eldest of 10 kids!  After attending a local Grammar school ( with girls in it!) I went to UMIST and got an Hons degree in Electronics, Herriot Watt in Edinburgh for a Masters in Digital Techniques.  I had a 17 year career with Hewlett Packard in Computers and telecomms.  Later started my own software company based in Devon.  After selling that I had a stint with Marconi in London/Coventry and Liverpool.  I moved to Toronto and did a set of start ups for a French / English company in North America.  I have had the good fortune to have worked in many places and have now (August, '02) moved to Palo Alto , California. I took a position of President and CEO for a silicon valley software company called Narus ( www.narus.com)...check out our web site  Heavens knows where to next but it all reminds me of those dreaded cross countries...never any time to rest...over one hurdle and then you see another...etc.   I do have some mixed feeling about DLS...The overly tough environment does tend to produce two extreme results...either a student who is himself a bully, tyrant and workaholic ( I certainly picked some of this up! ) or someone who is sad and submissive.  I hope they moderated this in later years.  I would love to hear from anyone who recalls me from then - Peter Green

Started work as a journalist on a local newspaper shortly after leaving DLS,  progressed via various papers to Daily Telegraph.  Moved on and became deputy editor of the Racing Post.  Back in the North, still in racing journalism and loving it, as always.  Married Judith over 30 years ago, blessed with two daughters now aged 29 and 28.  Owned one racehorse, best finish fourth in a Hamilton seller.  That will mean nothing to non-racing folk but will speak volumes to the few.  Still love history.  Thanks, Arthur.

Only spent 2 years in 6th form at DLSC, having emigrated from the the South at 16.  After Chemistry degree at Sheffield, went into industry for 17 years.  Switched career and became - eventually - Chief Librarian at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London until early retirement in 1997.  Major interests along the way have been my family, rockclimbing (took it up for 10 years in my late 40's having been reluctantly introduced to it by my sons) and music.  I play with a group called Balalaika, specialising in Russian traditional music and Jewish klezmer).  We play at weddings mainly.  Lived in London for many years now.  Hope to see some more of my former class-mates on here eventually - what's happened to Tony Early, John Anyon, Mo Hermitage?  Anyone know?

Don't remember too much about my days at DLSC.  That was a strange part of my life, though I do clearly remember Bro. Wilfred and Foley and Winnie.  Why, I do not know.  Left sometime in '60 and took a number of jobs until I joined Sheffield Police which I now realise I should never have left.  Anyway, moved on to running a club and then moved one more time to Canada.  A great place to live by any standard.  Get to visit Sheffield occasionally to see my Mother, 90 this year (2002), and my two kids.  On reflection, I did not enjoy my years at Scott Rd but the education I received there has stood me in good stead and for that I am grateful.  I'm retired now, last two years have flown by and this year I will be 58.  Hears hoping it's going to last for a long time yet.  Really enjoyed reading some of the recollections of old boys but cannot remember too many names from that time.  Anyone who recognises me I would love to hear from you.

Personal Interests: Too many to mention.  Though the family I'm told had an association with DLS going back to its inception.

Any other information: My father was the first DLS pupil on the school's register. His aunt Mrs. Hickey, a Headmistress, was the wife of one of the original School Governors, a Thomas Hickey who died on Saturday 9th June 1934. Amongst his contemporaries in 1923 were John Clare (a later Sheffield City Treasurer), W.J.Grace (who eventually went back to New York, Bernard Walsh, C. Birtles, T.Tynan, John Lodge (of Lodge Cutlery fame , and a daily Mass goer at St. Vincents for nearly 50 years(!), C. Heffernan, T.Hutchinson , Mulrenan, Wilson Cooper(R.), Adamson, Mallinder, Adamson, and Wilson were a part of that early history, which covered 1923 to the mid thirties. William Grace obtained an Honours at Oxford - perhaps the first (certainly one of the first ex DLS pupils to graduate from Oxbridge). A contemporary was Harold Flint of the eponmymous law firm (now absorbed into Taylor and Emmett). Later my uncle Thomas Brian Hosty attended and was eventually School Captain ( Head Boy). He became a dentist and was incarcerated by the Japanise in Burma , post war he spent a little time in Sheffield as a community health dentist but eventually returned to the West of Ireland to be both a dentist and a serious farmer. His treatment as a prisoner of war left him with mental scars (undiscussed with anyone), and he could never bring himself to visit England again after his last trip in autumn 1954. My father - Kevin - had in the meantime returned to DLS as a teacher of English (and if tales be believed many other subjects too). In 1939 he was called up and didn't return to England until 1946 (his health broken by his Middle Eastern war experiences). My mother (to be) was summoned to take over at the College in lieu of Kevin and stayed until his return in '46. (She then went to Mylnhurst until 1948). Kevin stayed at DLS until a bust up with Rev. Bro. Lernard in 1948/9. He subsequently went to St. Vincents (with Messrs. Bernard Sweeney [whose brother was in turn Very Rev. Mgr. Sweeney of the Lancaster Diocese] and Bill Walsh). A fearsome triumvirate if ever there was one! He left Catholic Education as a direct result of the "right Horlicks" made of the reorganisation of secondary schooling , which was in turn responsible for the ultimate demise of DLS. In the meantime my older brother Brian joined Scott Road in 1950. He left in '57 or '58. I attended from 1960-68 - the last of the line - and, some may say and "good riddance too!" I have many recollections and quite a few mementos, including the first school photo of 1925, Green and Golds going back to 1934, prize giving programmes, and the like. My own contemporaries included Tom Boulding, Donal Brendan and Gerry O'Leary, Pete Riley, David Wright (who went to Peterhouse Cambridge), Pat Shore (who left in the fifth year to go to Ampleforth as a novitiate), Lunec, John Sheehan, Lunn (a Headboy whose dad had been to DLS in my father's pre-war days), Fred Laughton (from Worksop), Pete O'Donnell, a range of Fitzpatricks (whose father was I think the first Head Teacher at All Saints), Breislin, Bakunowicz, Jardine, Japinski, Chambers, Battams, Wraith, Massarella, John and Mick Pilley, Cunningham, Barfield (from Rotherham) D'Silva (went on to become a medic, I think), John Strain (an officer in the Navy) Shaun Moran (a super lad who I recall got 3'A's at A level in 1967 or 68 and then died during the summer hols prior to taking up his University place - fast onset leukemia! A real waste.) I could go on . Note: I claim not all of these in my year, rather that they were on my horizon and for good or ill we interacted at some point, if not even became friends in a few instances. Hope it fills in some of the gaps/jogs a memory or three. Regards, KMH.
